WASSA Club Details

Western Australian Sleddog Sports Association (WASSA) is a Not for Profit sporting club dedicated to spreading the thrill of Sleddog racing in Western Australia. While it is true that we do not see snow here, we have adapted the sport allowing us to enjoy the thrills, and even sometimes, the spills of “Mushing”.

Mushing is a sport for many breeds of dogs, not just Siberian Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes. Other breeds that can run in harness include German Shepherds, Border Collies, Belgian Shepherds, Samoyeds, Pointers, Hounds, mixed breed dogs and many many more! It may not be instinctive for your breed of dog to pull in harness but it can be taught to many dogs.

WASSA, formerly known as the Alaskan Malamute and Siberian Husky Club of W.A have been running training and race days since 2001. These races and training days are held only in winter, this stops the dogs from overheating.

Apart from Mushing, our club is involved in a wide variety of events and activities such as beach walks, BBQ’s, Picnics and family days, and club / breed demonstrations.

As a Not for Profit sporting organisation, we are always on the look out for sponsors. If your business is interested in sponsoring WASSA financially or otherwise (products, products samples and merchandise), please contact Valentina on valentina@wassa.com.au.
